Dear NLGJA Members & Friends,Jeff Truesdell here. NLGJA's national convention in Montreal is just eight months away -- very little time, really -- and as its volunteer program chairman, I want your help.
Great ideas have come our way and we are chewing on them.
But every year the same thing happens: The program goes out, and people ask, "Why didn't you include ...?" So here's my challenge:
We want a convention that offers identity discussions, sure -- but I attend conventions myself to pick up new skills and ideas to take back to my newsroom. It makes the bosses happy, proves NLGJA's value in a time of industry convulsions, and helps me to benefit others, not just as an example, but as a go-to source for tips. There's only so much room for hand-wringing; I want to leave a convention with energy and enthusiasm, and I want the same for you.
Look around. What do you need to stay competitive? What concrete skills are going to keep you in your job, or help you land a new one? What are you missing? What do you want this convention to teach you?
Please take this second to e-mail me directly with a quick thought, a sentence, an idea. After all, it's your convention. We'll squeeze in as much as possible, to guarantee you leave Montreal with the renewed passion and purpose you deserve.
